obama rocks

Anyone rooting for Obama? Well surely I'm not american and thus have no right to vote in the coming election. But as a blogger, I do have the right to voice my opinion about the candidate's political stances and I choose Obama in the race for the next US presidency.

Think about this.. If elected, Obama would roll back the Bush tax cuts, an issue that my titas and cousins in america are really complaining about. Obama's investing in alternative fuels, increasing energy efficiency in america offering new green jobs and opportunities. And unlike Bush, Obama will responsibly end the war in Iraq. So from what I've read, seen and heard, Obama has the best vision and I believe he knows what's good for restoring their economy thus what's good for america. And one good reason why I think it might be interesting to see him in the white house: John McCain is a supporter of death penalty. Enough said.

After watching all those campaigns and debates on tv, I wish leaders in our country have as much integrity and credibility (at least) as the american presidential candidates have. We need a leader who can ask all Filipinos to make the sacrifices necessary to change the rotten course of this country. We need a real leader who understands that the government is not just about politics or corporations instead, it is about the people. We need a president who makes us think, inspires us to dream and challenges us to take action. What more can I say, WE NEED OUR OWN OBAMA.

how i met your mother

This show makes me laugh. Actually, it is the only sitcom that I seem to laugh out loud to after Friends. Well at first glance, How I Met Your Mother is an annoying rip from our favorite comic new yorkers. Yes, the two shows do share some similarities, but even if it sounds and feels like a Friends rip-off.. How I Met Your Mother is a hit in its own, original way. The narrating, editing and random humor are cooked just right which are some reasons why this show is great for anyone.

I caught this last summer when the first season reruns were airing and i thought it was great. I've been watching this show for a while now, catching an episode here and there but it wasn't until recently that after watching the whole season three that I really started appreciating it for what it is.

It is one of the shows that is always catching you off guard with its unpredictable moments and always keeping you interested. The casting and writing is really great and I laugh pretty hard which I always get with Friends. So overall I do recommend this show, I think it is one of the best american sitcoms right now.

true blood

Get your blood moving with the new HBO series, True Blood. Another interesting and fascinating series from HBO with more than enough nudity, sex and blood, perfect for those discerning fans of vampires. It is based on the Southern Vampire Series flavored with all the elements of a successful HBO series.

I read some of the reviews online and I'll be a bit more forgiving with True Blood. The pilot was not bad. The opening credits is enough to hook a person right there. But honestly after watching the first two episodes, it had me wondering if I should go on to the third. But something about the strong characters and gripping storyline somehow guaranteed me that it'll get better, and it did.

The beginnings are the usually the hardest and most difficult to polish. There are thousands of characters to introduce, a million of plot lines to develop and a billion of audience to please. So I figure, give it 3 episodes and then it'll be fair to decide whether those redneck vampires with dolly parton's accent are worth to watch.

True Blood is the kind of show that stands out in its genre, while it has the every opportunity to fall flat and sink unknowingly. But overall, I think the show is entertaining enough with lots of developing plots (and nudity) to look forward to. So I'd say True Blood is worth a watch. And the southern accents?.. you'll get used to it.

nothing fancy

Since I started this blog, I've been online with some degree of regularity. I enjoy writing and I know people get into blogging for a lot of different reasons. For me this has just been about having an outlet and a reason to write. But I got so busy with this blog and that I realized I haven't done a little doodling these days. It's not that I have to but I already miss that certain desire to draw.

Yesterday I started playing around in my sketchbook again. It's nothing to really jump up and down about, but at least something in me is beginning to stir. Maybe it's the short vacation, maybe it's weather, or maybe it's just my creative nature. Whatever the reason, it feels good to awaken my senses, stretch my doodling fingers and create something.

Well you see I’m a chronic doodler. If I have a pen and a paper nearby, chances are I’m doodling while doing some other stuff that leaves my hands free. My brand of doodling takes a distinct approach on architecture and silly characters, usually resulting in sketches of soft edges and linear curves that I instinctively dream up.

it's a party, things happen

.. And like I've said, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Anyone who lives a packed lifestyle knows that nights can be unexpectedly long. What was supposed to be a long night of fun ended in a bitter dispute and an almost police report. Our friend was pretty drunk and she was alone with some guy we didn't know. And like most people, our reaction would be a bit aggressive and protective.

The boy denied he had any intentions but we saw what he did. And I've been to clubs and parties with this girl and I know she can hold her liquor. I haven't seen her nearly passed out on her puke like that night which made us think.

Bouncers escorted us out of the club as we walk our friend to the car for some water. The boy and his friends followed us with their temper looking for the guy who allegedly maltreated his ego. We tried to work things out since our colleague got a bit aggressive, but their irrational egos shunned any possibilities.

Embassy personnel were there while we try to talk and explain to these boys that the guy they're looking for already left. We tried to rationalize the incident but they were too immature to handle it. Securities advised us to leave to avoid any fight so we left without any closure to the incident.

The club has gained notoriety after a series of squabbles and scandals involving their patrons and we could have been on that long list. But honestly, I do not regret any loose connection to that trivial squabble. The incident have somehow nourished my maturity that I will benefit from for a long time to come.

So to the boys and girls who are planning to live up their nocturnal life, I have a little advice for you all. While I pass no judgment to people who want to have pretty drunken fun, what I want to advocate is this: PARTY RESPONSIBLY... since that's the only way to keep the party going.

nanny 911

Dear Parents, where are you when your kids need you? We all know that the legal age for clubbing and drinking is 18, then how did those kids get in last saturday? I mean seriously, are those kids even old enough to stay up late? What exactly happened to the cinderella generation?

When I was 14 or 15, we don't have soirees in clubs or at least not in embassy. Embassy is neither a cafe or a restaurant with a little dance floor where kids can just hang out. It's a real club where drugs and alcohol can leak just like a snap.

From kids, to celebrity yayas. Who said yayas can't go out and have pretty-drunken fun like their alaga? I should've asked for a photo op with that manang. I mean, where else can you see a 50-something yaya shaking her damn tailfeather? Manang stole the super award in embassy that night. Perhaps party really never stops, even if you're 50.

I could now say that Embassy is a real superclub. Underage clubbers? Clubbing yayas? Only in Embassy. Well like I've said, Embassy is a superclub. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN...

knives out

How should I explain to them that there are just no reasons.. only triggers? Consider the insipid chatter, whine and hum of gossip, nonsensical singing and laughing in the overcrowded three-meter hallway. Think of this as your feet sink into the rain-soaked mud as the voices take over your head. Ponder. Think about it. Wouldn't you lose your temper and impulsively go berserk in the middle of everyone's mindless chattering?

My anger was triggered by someone yesterday. I thought I had it under control. I tried to batter my demon into submission but I failed. The feeling of power is toying me and my impulsive rage gave me access to get out of it, so I grappled with the notion of anger. I realized that it has been there sitting for so long like a gasoline tank and the cluttered noises are the lit match. I left for some air and considered calling up some friends to cheer myself up but the thought of any social interaction filled with me dread.

Eventually I easily got out of that state. The anger that had been slashing away my insides has been expelled. I'm exhausted, confused but better now.

Late, but still great

I did not official declare that I would be on a blogging break. But I'm officially back now. I apologize for not being around but thesis work keeps me busier than normal.

Something big hit me yesterday. I thought I will not graduate next year. I thought I will have to re-enroll my thesis next term. My adviser strictly said four to five and I was still on my way to school thirty minutes before five without my printed drafts. All I have was my USB.

4:45: printing my drafts. I was consciously looking at my watch while my papers slide out of the printer. If it takes a minute to print 20 pages, I'm so screwed. My thesis draft was like over 300 pages where it'll take more than 15 minutes to have it all printed.

4:55: still there printing, sweating, shaking, saying a short prayer.

4:59: printing was done. I guess I miscalculated that one. I had my book temporarily binded and ran to my adviser. I was a few minutes late but good lord, he was there waiting for my draft.

So today I feel relax after dropping my three-inch thick draft on my adviser's table. After all the pain, hardwork and abnormal sleep pattern, it feels good to hear the solid mammoth sound as it landed on his desk. It's nearly 60% of what I need to submit next term and yes three-inch thick is still not good.

So I guess that's it. Thesis is done for now. I won't talk about thesis for a while and try to focus on my old system.
